For some, the path to permanent residency is not available (yet). For those people, there are sometimes other options that will allow them to temporarily stay in the US lawfully and work.
TPS: The US designates certain countries or regions as temporarily protected. Immigrants already in the US from these areas are afforded special privileges that allow them to obtain work authorization and protected status.
DACA: Children who were brought to the US by their family had no choice or say, but they grow up in the US and often have more ties to the US than their native country. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals provides a temporary protection from deportation and work authorization so that these members of our communities can work and live.
